Gold slowly rubbed a hoof across her forehead.

"Can you please run that by me again, Fine?"

Fine Print sighed.

"Well, as we found out, she is likely the only pegasus that will be born to the Platinum's, but you should remember, Gold, that she was still born to Sapphire. They just need to do some genetic testing to see that. She is currently unclaimed, so she can't go anywhere else. I'm not even sure if House Hurricane would accept her anyways."

Gold groaned.

"Why do ponies have to make things difficult?"

"We'll just have to sit back and watch what happens, Gold."

Lightning had never been self concious before. Everyone knew that clothes were just a statement of formality, or for special occassions. But today - even though she had never worn much for dress clothing or otherwise - she felt very, very naked and embarassed.

She stood in the center of the University's lecture hall shaking and trembling. The ponies assembled in the audience were mainly doctors or scientists, each on a cutting edge of their fields. Some were graduate students, looking down at their papers as they sketched away. But in the front row sat her mother, her uncle, and several other family members from both royal lines - Puddinghat and Platinum. Behind them sat the representatives for House Hurricane, in the absence of any last members, as she'd been informed.

On the stage, both Princesses sat on either side of her, but were clearly removed from involvement. Three other unicorns and one earth pony were also present onstage - the earth pony as a nurse, while the others were doctors.

She was the big showpiece for the medical world. The council and the princesses coudn't decide on a precise location or doctor for that matter, until one of the representatives for the Pegasi suggested a medical team be assembled. That it could be "one of the greatest discoveries for magical medicine and contraception". Considering the fame that House Platinum would receive from such a move, they happily agreed. But it was more out of spite for the whole proceeding that they chose this specific format.

"Velcome everyvone, to zee forum. Please have und seat," one of the doctors spoke up. He sounded like he was from the province of Germaney.

One of the other doctors took over. "Welcome everypony to this extraordinary opportunity. I must thank both the princesses and the Tribal Council for allowing the medical community to be involved."

He lifted a glass of water from the podium and took a sip before continuing. "I am Doctor Hearth Fire, specialist in pre-natal development and foremost leader in the field of magically assisted pregnancies, or Pre-natal MAP's."

He directed his magic at the screen above which whirred to life, showing several graphs and lines of some kind of code Lightning couldn't decipher. Her ears stayed plastered against her head, her tail tucked in between her legs. There would be no happy place here.

"The colleagues that will be assisting me today are Doctors Double Helix, from Marelin University, and Family Tree, from Oxford University and expert on the Ancestry of the Three Tribes. If you look on the screen above, we will be talking about six individuals surrounding the patient, Miss White Lightning, whose family name will be determined by the outcome of this test."

"The other individuals in question are the mother, Princess Platinum, her brother, Prince Blueblood, and their mother, Princess Emerald. Their ancient relatives will be of question here today: Princess Topaz, 211 - 267 SSC, Lord Typhoon Hurricane 208 - 231 SSC, and Princess Topaz's Mentor, the Famous Starfire the Enlightened, 195 - 257 SSC."

He switched the screen above, breaking it into partitions for each of them. "We can easily trace the line back to the point where these two had a very brief marriage in the year 225, due to the Great Drought. It was a short marriage, but, a foal did come of it. A unicorn foal, who's direct line traces up to Princess Emerald, and by proxy, to Princess Sapphire."

"Princess Celestia was kind enough to allow us to produce a working memory of the individuals in question - although during that time, she was very ill and only mere images remain without further, more intrusive methods to recover such a memory."

-------
(( This is the video ))

"Your Majesty," a tough white stallion with stormy blues and greys in his mane bowed before her. Celestia looked over her bedside at the stallion.

"Rise, Lord Typhoon, Heir of House Hurricane. Speaketh while I still lay 'wake."

"I fear my House is at an end, your Highness. Only I remain of my brothers, and my dear love lays across the sea, snatched by her dark father. I fear his ambitions to have us dwindle have all but come to pass."

The scene wobbled slightly, taken from the perspective of the Princess. "'Tis a dark time, indeed. But I doth see a twinkle in thy eye. Hast a plan finally formed in thy mind?"

Lord Typhoon nodded. "Though I am weak, my talent still remains as strong as it ever was. I have turned small clouds into small storms - for what little remain. It has sustained some, but not enough. I have prepared myself to take one final journey to rid this land of dust and sand. To journey south to the land of Dragons, and theive the thick clouds that form there."

She coughed, a horrible gut-wrenching cough, before speaking again. "You would end your House for the good of Equestria?"

"I must. It is my duty. To serve until the end is all I have ever desired. While the earth tribes struggle to survive and the House of Platinum continues to reach its hooves into the rest of law while you lay here, barely able to call upon the sun and its glory, we have done naught but wither and die. I will not, I must not, allow House Hurricane to dwindle from its duty nor its glory."

He looked away from the Princess. "Lord Starfire has assured me that we will not fade, for the courage I have shown. He assured us as much, through our marriage and our foal. It... it will be a long time before the House will come again."

Celestia focused in on his brilliant yellow eyes. "I cannot stop you, Typhoon. Bring your namesake for the glory and affection of Equestria."

"As I shall."

-----

A round of applause was given for the video, for which the Princess simply nodded her assent. Lightning was still transfixed by the individual on the screen - the same bright yellow eyes as she, the blue and grey mane, hers just a little lighter than that. She started to tremble worse. Could her father really be from almost 800 years ago?

"Now. While it is usually not the case, we did recover some partial DNA samples from his tomb, where he is encased within his statue in the royal garden. It was enough to reconstruct it based on Dr. Helix's research."

Double Helix stepped up to the podium. "Zee code is und very difficult matter to rebuild as most ov zee information iz hard to conceptualize. However, vee have taken multiple samples - with permission ov course - to rebuild ninety-four percent of ze code, from the eighty-vone percent original sample."

The double helix slowly plowed its way onto the screen, as Hearth Fire stepped into the center of the stage, next to White Lightning. "When comparing the data, we find - very curiously - that Princess Sapphire's DNA contains only the basic organ genes every pony has in common - bone structure, magic conduits and the like are still very much in line with the rest of the family."

The nurse held up one of Lightning's hooves and forced her into a sitting position. "We will present the patient's genetic code on the spot, as per request due to the sensitive nature of the case," he continued. A small device hovered over to her hoof. She felt a pinching feeling on her ankle, for which she winced.

The small machine was placed inside another, set up in the wall. "Doctor Helix, if you would?"

The other doctor's magic poured into the machine, tinkering and anylizing the small amount of blood it had connected. The computer screen began to pour out letters in random orders -

G
C
A
T
A
T
A

Lighting was a little overwhelmed by it all. The nurse leaned down and offered her a sip of juice, which she readily took in her hooves. "Relax," the nurse whispered.

After a moment, the computer began to take over, running screen after screen of comparissons. The audience held their breaths.

Finally, it came to a halt. One line blinked on the screen.

"Run them separately, Helix," Hearth Fire said.

A few moments later the computer was back on task, spinning through every nook and cranny of the code. Lightning kept her eye on the only clock on the wall, while the students and doctors scratched away with their quills. After twenty minutes of counting, she lost interest. It was nerve-racking for everyone outside, but she was still on display like some lost mystery.

The computer chirped.

"Let us first complete the analysis of the spell, to see if it is within the realm of our discussion. Since Princess Luna was not present for the disputes that occurred during the drought, both the council and Princess Celestia have agreed to allow her to analyze the spell."

Princess Luna nodded, looking down at a tablet computer in her aura. The words flipped through the screen at a breakneck pace. "From what I've seen on the topic of MAP's, this goes far beyond that capability. It involves including spells which are most intriguing and somewhat troubling. Under the circumstances, it comes very close to spells banned shortly after my exile. While I won't debate or discuss what research must have been done to cast this, it appears as though it is plausible that it is some sort of 'delayed' MAP. A very complex spell which is structured so differently."

She looked up. "We will discuss the specifics after the result."

The doctor nodded, giddy with excitement. "Well then! What a surprise!" People in the audience murmured to one another, on the topic at hoof. Lightning felt sick to her stomach.

He cleared his throat into the microphone. "Now, for the final result. In the matter of genetic similarity," the screen flicked to the next page. The audience's jaws dropped. "Out of... ahem, uh... the ninety-four percent we have..."

Some of the representatives started to storm out of the hall in disbelief.

"Eighty-four percent match to Lord Typhoon. And... sweet Celestia... no genetic matches to Princess Sapphire at all. The mother's genetic code appears to have been taken from... somewhere. I'm not really sure what to make of this."

Double Helix seemed baffled as they went into conference with one another. Their hushed words were almost to the point of normal volume. Hearth Fire turned away as Double Helix ran the numbers again, punching in algorithm markers for paternity testing. Quicker than before the numbers came up again.

"The uh... Father.... is definitely Lord Typhoon, of House Hurricane. To find the mother, we will have to... um, look at the spell in further, uh, detail. For now, may I present Lady White Lightning of House Hurricane, daughter of Lord Typhoon and, heir to the, uh, title."

"I never really saw use in these bugs, but I'm sure damn glad I invested in them!"

Gold smirked as she looked at the screen...

...and at all the hushed scientists and doctors that were watching the slide shows.

Stone, Axle, Fine, and Mist nodded as they all scooted closer to the television screen

((meanwhile, at the university lecture hall))

A very small, spherical shape floated below the glass panes of the hall, it's camera pointed into the lecture hall.

Pyro took a deep breath as she concentrated harder. She was thankful the camera bug was very small, so she didn't have to do much, just listen to what Gold and the others have to say into her earpiece and move the camera if needed.

It was only the giddiness inside of her from learning where Lightning stands in the Houses that kept her going.

((meanwhile, back at the electronics store.))

Gold lifted a bottle of whiskey from the table and poured it into an individual shot glasses, one for each of them, even one for Pyro, who was not there.

She lifted her glass to the screen, the others mimicking the movement.

"Lady White Lightning of House Hurricane? We toast to you. Although I find what they are doing invasive, as you are not some damn medical experiment for them to poke and prod, I guess you can't argue with the results."

Gold downed her drink, the rest of the group following after shouting "Here, here!".

"You need to bring your wing up higher, Lightning, or the strike will injure you too."

Lightning panted, lowering her left wing, she felt the dull pain from hitting the dummy wrong throbbing in her left wing. It didn't even fall over.

She was in the training grounds, finally advancing into her weapon training. Under the watchful eye of the Princess of the Night, she was being trained in an all but dead form of weaponry - wing blades. Terrifying weapons, known only to elite warriors in the conflicts after the formation of equestria. Use of their training faded away over time, and disappeared altogether when House Hurricane was wiped out.

But Luna remembered that style. The story she told her, about Commander Hurricane's son teaching her before facing down Discord inspired her to want to be taught. It was something to pass on for sure. After being told almost a week ago, who she was - it made her more determined than ever to get the training she wanted. More importantly, it distracted her from the very problem it was causing.

"Again.

Lightning reared back and launched herself from the ground, zipping across the twenty strides and slamming her wing into the dummy's chest. She winced. Another missed strike.

Princess Luna sighed. "Higher. You're still skimming the surface of the ground and that drags you down."

The Princess crouched before launching herself in a similar manner, except taking off a little higher. The effect was a resounding crack, as the dummy's head went flying into the far wall. "The technique should be dangerous even before you put on the blade, that way you are always armed."

She levitated the remains of the training dummy into the corner. "We'll resume tomorrow. Make sure to practice your breathing techniques. Absolutely no more practice for tonight, unless you want your wing to swell up."

Lightining nodded, tucking her sore wings against her sides.

"Why don't you go out on the town? You can meet me at the Underside - there's always a good party going on down there."

"Maybe." Lightning said. "Thank you again for the training, Princess." She bowed low.

"See you tomorrow evening."

Lightning took a quick shower in the room the Castle was providing her, while they continued to sort out the slowly unravelling chaos in the political world. The mere fact she was an heir to House Hurricane had ponies up in arms, claiming flimsy science and that they were quoting vague science. Most ponies on the street gave her a wide berth, or avoided her altogether. After her first attempt to venture out and see Gold, she hadn't tried again.

But she was so very lonely. She'd cried so many times that it was painful to recall them. Even Princess Luna had to comfort her on more than one occasion.

Tonight, she was determined to change that. She floated up into the clouds, skimming the surface towards the shop, before diving down onto the streets. The ponies walking around moved away rather quickly. She winced and quickly entered through the front.

"AND STAY THE HELL OUT YOU DUMBASS!"

Gold slammed the front door of the shop shut so hard that Fine and Stone were surprised the glass didn't shatter. Another bad visit.

"Celestia! Half the ponies that come in here don't even remember what the hell they're doing, but now I got damn conspiracy theorists and newspapers banging my door down to ask about a night that happened so long ago!"

She slumped against the ground.

Stone came over and patted her on the back in reassurance.

"I guess that's the price you have to pay for, Goldy. Just knowing Lightning and having been seen with her is going to get ponies thinking the wrong things. You'll just have to accept this until this whole political fiasco dies down."

Gold waved a hoof.

"Yeah, yeah. Just remind me again why I haven't shaved and hung the nurse who spilled the beans on me and Lightning by her hooves in the square?"

Fine raised a hoof.

"Because that would be illegal, and would only increase the rate in which these ponies are showing up because you would have basically confirmed it."

Gold narrowed her eyes at Fine.

"Smartass."

Fine sat down at the card table set up in the middle of the shop.

"I though doctor-patient confidentiality still had meaning in this time of ours. I guess was proven wrong when your doctor and nurse went to the papers and sold their story to them in order to gain some bits. I'm surprised that no one made them sign any non-discloser agreements."

Gold lifted a hoof.

"I guess I'm paying for it now. But I wouldn't take back a single second of my time with Lightning. I'm happy as long as she's happy."

The bell on the front door chimed.

Gold growled as she stood up and turned towards the door.

"I though I told you to-!"

Her words failed her as she saw who stood in the doorway.

Her smile could have lit up Equestria for days on end.

"Lightning!"

"Hi." Lightning smiled, butterflies rose up in her stomach, but she ignored it. She crossed the room and wrapped Gold into a big hug.

"Sorry I've been missing, but I've been a bit busy. Family issues, as you probably know."

She slowly lowered herself. "I also came to apologize to Stone, for this."

She pressed her lips hard against Gold's just taking in everything about her - if only briefly. The scent of metal and stale electricity wafted against her nose, making her heart thump out of her chest. It was like smelling a new laptop.

She pulled away blushing, facing Stone. "If you want to hit me, feel free."

Stone took one good look at the blushing, shocked, and paralyzed look on Gold's face...

...and the embarrassed, blushing face of Lightning...

...and she laughed. Hard.

"Whoo boy! HEHEHEHEHEH! I haven't seen Gold like that in ages! I could never hit a mare like you, Lightning!"

She trotted forward and pulled both Lightning and a stock-still Gold into a large hug of her own.

"I'd invite ya into the relationship Gold and I have, but I don't think it'd be proper for a mare of your status and fame. We already have ponies knocking in our door and asking too many personal questions. The last thing we need is a scandal involving you. We could never put you through the wheat grinder again, not after you just got pulled out of it."

Meanwhile, Fine had just circled around, now getting a good look on Gold's face, which she seemed to be getting back control of. The same couldn't be said for her wings, which were spread high and wide around Stone's grip.

Fine smirked at Gold.

"Serves you right for embarrassing me in front of Fancy Pants."

That seem to snap Gold out of her daze as Stone let go of her and Lightning. She lifted a hoof and touched them to her lips. She looked back at Lightning.

She gave a sheepish grin.

"I hope I'm not rubbin' off on ya."

Fine gave a small chortle as she pointed at Gold's wings.

"Gold? Deary? You may want to see a doctor about that."

Lightning shifted a little to the side. "Actually, I, uh."

Her face was bright red. Her thoughts were going at a million miles a second and she couldn't seem to grab onto what she wanted to say. She took a deep breath, letting herself calm down a little bit.

"If you're willing to have me, I'd like to uh, be a part of it."

She paced a little bit in the room before coming back to a halt. "I know my 'status' isn't exactly easy to work around, but I don't actually have any other friends. I don't have living family anymore, the rest of the Guard hates me, and I can't walk down the street without being abandoned, or given a wide berth. The only ponies who'll give me the time of day are you girls and the Princesses."

"I can understand if you don't want me in it for the safety of your business, but, I don't have anyone else or anything else to lose. I have no home, no bits, no job because of my status, no inheritance cause the old Canterlot mansion used to be on the land the Canterlot Museum of Art was built on. The only things I own are my bags and a blanket."

Lightning fought back a wave of sadness, keeping it stored in her gut. "I don't want to be alone anymore. I'm tired of it."

Gold listened to what Lightning had to say, her sheepish grin turning into a frown. She looked at Stone, who looked back, and they both nodded.

They both walked to either side of Lightning.

Gold and Stone sat down and wrapped their forelegs around Lightning, enveloping her in their warmth.

Stone rested her muzzle on top of Lightning's mane, and Gold nuzzled at her ear.

"A noble or a homeless pony, in your case, both, Stone and I could never leave someone like you alone on the streets. I don't care if it's not proper, or even scandalous, I would never leave you out in the cold, Lightning."

She turned her head and gazed into Lightning's eyes, sincerity the only thing you could see.

"I may sound like a broken record when I say this, White, but I always pay back what I owe. Always. And now...I think I now know what to pay you back with. You are always welcomed in our relationship, White. We would gladly have you with us."

Lightning smiled. "Thanks you two. I'm still new to this whole dating thing so I kinda... well... looked it up." She whined in embarassment. "Herds are still around. Besides,"

She laid a kiss on each of their noses. "Princess Luna shows up an awful lot to the Underside scene. With some similar ponies with her. A lot of them are mares."

She nearly jumped with realization. "Oh! That's right, she invited me to go there tonihght. Is it nice?"

Gold gasped loudly as she pulled herself away.

"A chance to be escorted to a party scene with the Miss Lightning?"

Gold gave a melodramatic bow, even waving her hoof in a twirl.

"You honor me and Ms. Wall, Lightning. We'll gladly go with you to the Underside."

When Stone let go of Lightning, Gold sidled up next to her wrapped a foreleg around.

"And don't worry Lightning. We'll be with you every step of the way, through thick and thin. We'll stay by your side and go as far as you are comfortable with. Maybe even give you some advice!"

She leaned over and whispered into her ear.

"Like, the term 'herd' is so over-used nowadays. Makes it seem like we're some kind of lab group experimenting with love. It's like calling a mare who likes a mare a 'filly-fooler' as an insult. We prefer the term 'open-dating'."

She then leaned back.

"And I guess the first real sound advice we can give you is to be careful at the Underside. There isn't much of a fine line between partying and getting blitzed out of your mind down at that section of Canterlot. I won't lie when I say that the Underside could become your greatest night ever, or your worst nightmare."

Stone scoffed lightly.

"Last time I was down there, a group of unruly colts had snuck in and were lacing pony's drinks with hallucinogens in a desperate attempt to get laid. They never realized that they had used 'Bull Horn' until it was too late. Nearly got torn to shreds by some pretty angry stallions who saw them messing with their dates. I was lucky enough to NOT order a drink that night."

She leveled a look at Lightning.

"It's not all fun and good times, to just let you know. There are some 'very' shady ponies down there who'll do some of the weirdest, sickest, or downright unethical things to earn some bits or some tail."

Stone lowered her head and kept her gaze at Lightning.

"Just stand by me and Gold, don't accept ANYTHING given to you by anyone, and you'll be just fine."

She smirked.

"I think Princess Luna will be able to keep ponies in line, but I don't want to haul you out because you though the colors in that one drink were 'pretty'."

Stone's smirk grew.

"But, it's not all that bad. The Underside is mostly populated by mares and not many stallions. It's almost a courtesy thing. And this time of the week is usually when the wildest of mares and partiers show up. I think the worst that could happen to you is waking up with us and an unknown mare in your arms in a bed that doesn't belong to you or us."

She blinked a few times, blushing furiously. The Underside was that rough? She'd known it was shady, but... some of the guards actually went down to that place. Even Luna herself appeared every once in a while - each time at a different haunt. Or at her favorite - The Dome. A glass floor hanging over the valley below, reinforced over and over by magic. That was probably where she'd be tonight.

"Well, you keep me under a good watch. I don't think it'll be too bad if we go to the Dome. I think that's where the Princess is going. I hear its pretty tame when she shows up. Sometimes."

She sighed. "Am I supposed to wear a dress or something for this kind of thing? I have a lightning bolt hair pin I bought for my Bar Job. But it looks nice, I think."

Gold scratched her head as she pulled Stone away.

"The Dome? Oh yeah, that's probably the smartest place to go to tonight. It's a more...respectable place than what I was thinking of."

Stone nodded.

"Ayup. And, well, dressing up isn't really a common thing, but some ponies like to look nice. I guess wearing the lightning pin would be alright."

Stone leaned over and whispered rather loudly to Gold.

"Should we bring Fine? Or would you rather not repeat what happened last time?"

Gold whispered back, also loudly.

"I don't think she recovered from last time. Besides, she'll be a wet blanket half the time we're there."

Fine scoffed.

"I'm perfectly capable of handling myself, thank you very much."

Gold pointed a hoof at her.

"I see you have already repressed that memory. I think you're getting better at that. And Fine, I think it would be best of it was just Stone, Lightning, and me for tonight. Less to keep track of and it's easier to stay in a group."

Fine Print sighed.

"I guess there is no point in arguing with you."

She smiled faintly.

"I guess I'll close up your shop while you three get going."

Stone saluted as she wrapped a foreleg around Lightning and led her outside, Gold following behind and closing the door behind her.

Gold walked over to Lightning.

"So, anyplace you wanna go to before we hit The Dome?"

She blushed at Stone's touch. Was that normal? She wasn't really sure. Of course, she knew Gold and definitely liked Gold. But Stone was still a mystery to her. For a her- An open relationship, she made a note to get to know her.

"Uh. I need to stop by the castle for my pin. I can show you the guest room they're letting me use. They'll have to let you in because I'm 'Lady Hurricane.'" She giggled. "I suppose the name has its perks."

The second she stepped foot outside the shop, she wriggled out from beneath her hoof, looking around for anyone that might be passing by. The streets were still somewhat busy because it was still before sunset. So when she walked into the street, they all gave her a look and put a noticeable distance between them.

She cursed silently under her breath. "I'll meet you two by the entrance to the castle in a half hour. My room will have to wait."

Her wings unfurled and she took off into the cloud layer above, out of sight. A minute or two later, the ponies gathered paid the other two no difference as before, passing as if it were any normal day.

Stone looked on as Lightning flew away. Gold sighed beside her.

"If only ponies could learn to let their manes down and accept the ones around them. But...what can you do?"

Stone nodded. Her eyes widened a little.

"Oh, I forgot something. Hang on while I run right back in."

Stone went back into the electronics store before appearing only a minute later. Around her neck was a small gray satchel. She held Gold's brown satchel in her mouth before Gold took it.

Gold spoke as she slipped the satchel around her neck and rested it on her back.

"What did you need our bags for?"

Stone's eyes narrowed.

"Just some stuff in case something does happen to us."

Gold's eyes widened as she quickly ran her hoof through the bag she had. She felt something cold, metallic, and about the size of her hoof. She looked up at Stone with a worried expression.

"Is this really necessary? My horseshoes and my knife?"

"And my baton as well. I'm not going to that place defenseless. Trouble always seems to follow us wherever we go, Gold. I just want to be ready."

Gold took a good long look into Stone's eyes before she sighed.

"Fine. But we won't use them unless needed. I'm not gonna pull a knife on the first clueless mare to hit on Lightning."

Stone nodded before pointing in one direction. She grinned faintly.

"To the castle?"

"To the castle."

Lightning crossed through the main hall and out through the front doors of the castle. Her hair was neatly braided, with the lightning bolt stuck firmly on top. She looked around in the snow for her companions - her new lovers.

She shuddered. She was still hesitant to think of them in that light. Not quite yet.

Another pass over the crowd and she had found them. She fluttered past the guards walking the grounds outside and landed in front of them.

"Ready to go?"

"It's been forever since we got here."

"It's been only ten minutes since we got here, Gold."

"I'm gonna freeze to death out here."

"It's not even that cold out."

"We're lost-"

"We're in the right location, you dumb filly."

"And I'm trapped here with a mare with no sense of boundary."

"I know boundary!"

"And she bothers me constant-MMF!"

Gold coughed around the snow that was just unceremoniously shoved into her mouth.

"Careful Stone! I could've choked on a rock or something."

"Then maybe you should be quiet before I shove something else into your mouth."

"That's what she said."

"I know."

"....No comment."

Gold turned her gaze towards the sky as she heard the sound of beating wings. Lightning was fluttering towards them and had landed in front of the two sitting mares.

"Ready to go?"

Gold grinned as she stood up, Stone following behind her.

"Yep. I don't know any other stops to make, so I guess we oughta start moving. Stone'll lead the way. She's been to the Underside more than me, and knows her way around it better."

Stone nodded as she turned around and started walking, Gold motioning for Lightning to follow her before falling into pace beside Stone. She pointed a hoof at Lightning's mane.

"And I gotta say, I love your mane like that. It's like looking at two bolts of electricity winding together."

Lightning giggled. "Two bolts of lightning is too much, even for me." She followed Stone through the streets, watching some of the others giving them a good amount of space. It was enough to be noticable at least. Although as they approached the entrance to the Underside, more and more of the ponies stopped paying attention. She relaxed a little more as they started down the steps.

"So Stone, where should we start?"

"Well Gold, it's obvious that The Dome would have to be the spot for now. Not unless you wish to get drunk at one of the bars first."

"Nah, I don't feel like getting a skull splitting headache in the morning....well, not unless you're buying."

"Very funny Gold."

The group continued forward into the Underside, and the farther they went in, the more flashier the lights and the heavier and louder the music got. They saw ponies wandering the streets, giggling in a drunken manner. They stepped over a mare that was passed out on the sidewalk.

While Gold was taking in the sites, Stone was still leading them to The Dome. Her ears were being tuned in different directions and she scanned the crowds with her eyes.

Gold spoke up.

"I gotta say, if there's one thing the earth ponies got right when it came to architecture, I'd have to say that it was building the city like this."

Stone nodded with a grin.

"Yep. Nothing heartier than ol' earth pony engineering."

Her gaze suddenly hardened when she spotted a group of colts standing near the entrance to a nightclub. Their manes were spiked up with who-knows what kind of gel they had, and they wore piercings and glow sticks across their bodies.

The club was in their path.

"Listen closely, Gold, Lightning. Keep moving, don't make eye contact, and don't draw attention to yourself. I know this bunch, and they don't like taking 'no' as an answer. Just stay behind me and keep moving."

Lightning nodded her assent, letting the rhythm of the the bass set her heart in time. The place smelled heavily of alcohol and smoke, vented out from the walls of the city. The many windows looking over the burgeoning valley gave a good shot of both Ponyville - at least she thought it was Ponyville - and of the setting sun.

As they approached she felt more eyes looking at her. Some people stopped to look, but she was thankful that the crowd kept them moving along.

"Isn't that her," she heard someone whispering. She shook it off. Look forward, don't pay attention to the stallions in front.

Gold could see the ponies stopping when their eyes landed on Lightning. It was obviously making the mare uncomfortable, especially since some of the stallions at the club entrance were starting to look at them.

Gold moved closer to Lightning and placed a wing on her back. She whispered to her.

"Don't pay any attention to the ponies. We are going to have a fun time, and I'm not going to let anyone get to you. Just keep your attention forward."

The stallions' gazes were still following them.

Gold growled lightly and bumped into Stone's rear.

"Come on Stone. I don't think we should stick around too long. Ponies are staring."

Stone nodded and increased her pace, Gold moving faster along with Lightning still being covered by her wing.

The paths began to narrow and they were now heading downward at a faster rate.

"Just a little farther and we'll be on the stretch."

Just as promised the stallions didn't seem to care one way or the other who they were. They passed right by them without so much as a word exchanged, but when she glanced to the side to get a good look at them, they were talking amongst themselves.

"I think we're going to see them again before the night is through," she said worriedly.

The stairs finally leveled out, letting them off at the Basement level. The huge circular area was ringed with night clubs and bars - even some small time casinos in the place had an entrance down here. In the center was a huge pagoda with two sets of stairs spiraling down where the floor should have been. But there was a line. A long line with two huge stallions on the receiving end.

While she stared one of them caught her looking and waved them over.

"Stone," she said, signalling to follow.

She walked up to the bouncer. "Hurricane. You're on the list. I'll make it plus two. Luna's expecting you in the VIP room if she ain't on the floor."

He removed the rope for them to step through.

"Oh come on! I've been stakin' this place since this afternoon," one of the stallions yelled.

"Millstone, shut your hole. Don't you see who that is?" Probably his marefriend.

They trotted down the stairs and what she saw made her jaw drop. The whole place seemed to be made of the crystal in the mines hollowed out from the caves when the Underside was made. The stairs and guard rails, the bar counters, even the benches and chairs set up around the hall. Hanging from the roof was the renowned DJ Pon-3 spinning some of the coolest beats she'd ever heard. In the center of the floor was the Princess herself, moshing up and down with the crowd, squeezed tight with some of the more familiar mares she'd seen around the castle. I anyone doubted she had adjusted to the new millennia, they had never seen this.

Gold ran a hoof on the railing.

"Wow, I still never get used to this place."

What Lightning had said earlier worried Gold, but she didn't want to show it. She came down to this place to have fun with her two mares, and dammit, she was going to have fun.

"Well, I guess if you wanna see what the Princess is doing first, I'll make like a lost puppy and wander over to the bar for now. Or..."

Gold hooked a foreleg around White's. She grinned with a small gleam in her eye as Stone moved to stand on Gold's other side.

"...We can simply shake our way over there and greet her ourselves."

The glow from the neon lights reflected off of White's eyes, making her eyes shine like polished glass.

"I don't really know how to dance," she admitted. "I just thought you might want to come to a place like this since you've been before."

She looked down at the princess dancing herself through the crowd. If she wasn't careful, she was going to get crushed.

"Lead on?"

Gold smirked.

"Gladly."

Gold stood still as the tracks changed and a more energetic beat began to pound out from the speakers. Gold began to lightly bounce on her hooves, her mane bobbing lightly, the satchel on her back shaking, and her headphones slipping around.

She looked back up at Lightning.

"Try and keep up."

The loud grinding and whirring from the record scratching sounded off like starter's gun as the beats fired one after another in rapid succession. Gold took this as her start.

She flew to Lightning's side.

"You gotta start with this!"

She bounced onto her back hooves, then onto her front hooves, repeating the movements at rapid speed before she pulled her wings out.

"Dice it with this!"

She turned her wings with a mighty flap, making her spin like a top in midair.

"Then finish with this!"

She turned her wings and her spinning pulled into a large flying flip, where she then landed on her hooves and slid forward a few feet.

"You do that on repeat until we are near the Princess, then we can simply mosh into the pony crowd and get her attention!"
