There are bunches of very distinct genres that are either considered passe these days or just plain have never become mainstream.

My personal favorite? A subgenre of electronica called glitch. It utilizes sound considered "undesirable", such as random beeps, glitches, and crackles, among a cacaphony of other noises, and puts it all togaether to create surprisingly towntempo and chill music. Here's an example from my favorite glitch artist, a Japanese artist called Ametsub.

Call me stereotypical, but I'm into subgenres of pop. Is that considered stereotypical? Hmm...
